Residents require some assistance with activities of daily living, eg. bathing, dressing and administration of medications. Qualified nursing sisters and matrons are in attendance.
Spacious private rooms with private or shared bathrooms are situated in quiet gardens in which residents can amble around. All meals are taken in the communal dining rooms and entertainment is provided in the communal lounges.
Some rooms are rented on a monthly basis, others are purchased on a Tenancy Right basis. A resident's right to remain in that accommodation depends on health and ability. When a resident's health declines and they start requiring more nursing care, they are offered accommodation in a frail care centre, where 24 hour nursing is available.
When a resident moves out of his/her Tenancy Right unit, the unit is refurbished at the resident's cost and resold. A percentage of that selling price is refunded to the resident or to their estate. The new resident has the opportunity of choosing their new home's paint and carpet colours.
The value of the unit is market related and generally goes up in price each year. Repayment of Tenancy Rights to the resident is based on a sliding scale:
95% refund in first 6 months
90% refund in 7-12 months
85% refund in 13-24 months
80% refund in 25-36 months
70% refund 37-48 months
60% refund in 49-60 months
50% refund 61 months onwards.
